【Project Overview】 Qingcaosha Reservoir and Pump Brake Project, a construction project of stopping saltwater and storing freshwater at the Yangtze estuary, is located on the Changxing Island. It is a large reservoir project in the estuary and middle of the Yangtze River, with a reservoir capacity of 526 million m³, water supply of 7.19 million m³ per day, and a total investment of RMB 6 billion approximately; such a project scale is rarely seen in China and the rest of the world. In addition, this project will serve as part of auxiliary projects for the Shanghai World Exposition 2010, covering nearly 70 square kilometers. This reservoir is designed with a total reservoir capacity of 524 million m³, an effective capacity of 435 million m³, and the water supply of 7.19 million m³ per day. When this reservoir is completed, it can, without water intaking, supply high-quality water from the Yangtze River for 60 consecutive days and effectively prevent salt tide from affecting the water quality supplying to Shanghai, among which about 0.11 million m³ high-quality drinking water will be supplied to the residents on the Changxing Island and over 7 million m³ for Shanghai downtown area. Shanghai Darun Port Construction Group Co., Ltd. has undertaken the 1.5km (approx.) breakwater construction, with a contract value of about RMB 70 million. This project consisted of soft soil foundation treatment at the bottom of the river, filling sandbags for the breakwater body and surfacing works.
